Yes, but give it some time. The same principles apply but it might take longer for the entire bag. The best thing to do first is use it in your gloves and skates and get those under control. Depending on how bad they are this could take 24 hours or several days. Once those are under control you should be able to just keep them in your bag.
We have many kneepads and elbow pad users. Just be sure when you put them in the pads they fit in there nicely when it is in the gear bag and that should do the trick
